Oswaldo Ruíz

Oswaldo Ruiz is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte. His work has focused on portraying the visual archaeology of everyday life through photography and video. 

His work on the changing landscape of Mexico is developed through visual essays, focusing on the relationships between space and its political dimension.

He is interested in the way in which the construction of a place supports ideology through its materials and characteristics. His work follows the line of an archeology of the contemporary using analogue, digital photography and video to explore a sense of time in his images.

He has had more than twelve individual exhibitions, including: Nostalgia for catastrophes (Patricia Conde Gallery, Mexico City, 2018); Welcome to Paradise (Fototeca Nuevo León, Monterrey, 2018, and Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City, 2017); Space that fits between two times (Heart Ego Gallery, Monterrey, 2016); Knotting (Museum of Mexico City, Mexico City, 2013); Natural Frequency (Luis Adelantado Gallery, Mexico City, 2011), Oswaldo Ruiz 2002-2009 (Fototeca Nuevo León, Monterrey, 2010) and Last Night (Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, 2010).

His work has received different national and international recognitions such as the Acquisition Prize at the XVIII Photography Biennial of the Centro de la Imagen (2018), the SIVAM Prize (2006), the Petrobras-Buenos Aires Photo Prize (2006) and the Acquisition at the II Biennial of Visual Arts of Yucatán (2004). She has also been published in various books, magazines and catalogues, and exhibited at the international fairs Madrid Foto (2012 and 2011) and Paris Photo (2006 and 2007). Since 2018 she is a Member of the National System of Art Creators of FONCA.
