Description

OMAR TORRES

Mexico City, 1977

Mexican visual artist and photographer who re-contextualizes objects into images to express an innovative vision. Rather than portraying moments where interesting actions happen, which is what the viewer expects, Torres captures images of an object related to the action, before or after it happens.

He studied Photography Direction at the Cineteca Nacional de México and Photography at the Escuela Activa de Fotografía. His work has been exhibited in Mexico, Japan and Switzerland. He has been showed in 11 individual exhibitions and more than 50 group exhibitions, among which are Black Ink at the Nina Menocal gallery in Mexico, If Objects Could Talk at the official lounge of the Benito Juárez Airport in 2011 and Consecrated Objects at the Photo library of the Veracruzano Institute of Culture Mexico in 2012.

He is recognized by the United Nations Organization, The Word Bank Art Program in the About Change 2012 project, Fashion Film Festival DP and the Mainchi Newspaper Price 2018 in the city of Kyoto, Japan. His vision has led him to become founder and producer of the Central Art Projects 2011 to 2013 and Sismo Arte Contemporáneo 2016 and 2017 cultural spaces, both independent spaces dedicated to the production, exhibition and dissemination of contemporary artistic culture and practices in the city of Mexico

He currently lives and works in Mexico City.
